About Nimrag Dashcam

Nimrag Dashcam is a dash-cam application for Android phones and tablets. It uses your device's camera to record the road ahead (and, optionally, the cabin), and can log speed and GPS telemetry alongside your clips. Everything Nimrag captures is created and kept on your own device. Nimrag is designed for local, offline use: it does not include any feature to upload, sync, or send your data anywhere.

Information Nimrag Accesses and Creates

The items below are generated on your device and written to storage on your device. They are processed locally. None of them are sent to the developer or any third party.

Camera / video

Nimrag records video from the rear (road-facing) camera, and — if you enable it — the front (cabin) camera shown as a picture-in-picture inset in the same clip. Video files are saved to your device's Movies/NimragDashcam storage.

Optional microphone / audio

If you enable audio, Nimrag records sound from the microphone, including in-cabin audio, into the video file. Audio is optional and off unless you turn it on.

Location / GPS

When you enable location features, Nimrag uses your device's GPS/location to show your live speed, to save a GPX track file alongside your clips (in Documents/NimragDashcam), and — only if you enable burned telemetry — to draw speed and position onto the recorded video. Telemetry

Speed, position and related telemetry are derived from GPS on your device. Telemetry can be shown on screen, written into the GPX track, and optionally burned into the video overlay. It is stored on your device only.

Trip / odometer information

Nimrag keeps local trip values, such as total distance travelled and moving time, computed on-device and stored in the app's own settings. These aggregate values contain no coordinates or tracks.

Snapshots

When you take a snapshot, the still image is saved to Pictures/NimragDashcam/Snapshots on your device.

Location Use

Location is one of the more sensitive things an app can access, so here is exactly how Nimrag handles it:

• Nimrag does not request Android's background-location permission (ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION), and it does not ask for the "Allow all the time" location setting.
• Location is used while the relevant app functionality is active — for example while the app is open and using GPS features, and during a recording session that you start.
• During a recording session you start, recording runs as an Android foreground service represented by a persistent notification. Because of this, GPS may continue while Nimrag is minimized, while another app is on screen, or while the screen is off. This is normal dash-cam behaviour, so the GPS track and telemetry stay aligned with the video timeline.
• Location is used for live speed, GPX track logging, telemetry, and keeping the video and GPS data aligned.
• Location access stops when the relevant recording or location session ends.
• The app's power-connect monitoring service (which can wait for the device to be plugged in) does not itself access location.

Data Collection and Sharing

Nimrag itself does not transmit your video, audio, GPS tracks, telemetry, snapshots, or any other personal data to the developer or to anyone else. Specifically:

• No internet permission — the app declares no INTERNET permission, so it has no ability to upload your data.
• No networking or upload feature — there is no sync, cloud, or share-to-server functionality in the app.
• No analytics and no advertising.
• No tracking and no crash-reporting SDK.
• No third-party data-collection services are used, and no data is sold.

Because your data never leaves your device through the app, there is no developer-side collection of your recordings, location, or audio.

Storage

Your recordings and related files are stored on your own device:

• Videos are stored on your device (Movies/NimragDashcam).
• GPX track files are stored on your device (Documents/NimragDashcam).
• Snapshots are stored on your device (Pictures/NimragDashcam/Snapshots).

You control these files. You can view them in the app, share them using Android's share sheet when you choose to, and delete them using Nimrag or your device's normal file and gallery tools.

Please note that Nimrag does not guarantee permanent preservation of every clip: if you use Loop recording, the app's loop-retention setting may automatically remove older eligible loop clips to make room for new ones.

Android System Backup

Separately from Nimrag, Android and Google provide their own device backup and transfer features, tied to your Google account or your device migration — not to the developer. It is important to distinguish this from any data collection by Nimrag (there is none):

• Ordinary Nimrag app settings (such as your recording preferences) may be included in your Android backup and device-to-device transfer, so your configuration can be restored on a new device.
• The developer never receives this backup — it stays within your own Google account and devices.
• The trip odometer (aggregate distance and moving time, with no coordinates or tracks) is excluded from cloud backup and is only carried in a direct device-to-device transfer.
• Your video clips, GPX tracks, and snapshots live in your device's shared media storage and are not part of Nimrag's app backup at all.

Permissions

Nimrag requests only the permissions it needs to work as a dash-cam. In plain language:

• Camera — to record video from the rear and, optionally, the cabin camera.
• Microphone — to record audio into the video, when you enable audio.
• Location — for live speed and GPX/telemetry logging (foreground use only; no "all the time" background location).
• Notifications — to show recording status and readiness prompts.
• Foreground service — to keep recording running reliably while the app is in the background, and to keep the optional power-connect monitor alive.
• Run at start-up (boot completed) — only if you turn on auto-start on power, so the power monitor can resume after a restart.
• Wake lock — to keep recording during device idle so a session is not interrupted.
• Storage (older Android versions only) — on Android 9 and earlier, to save clips as files on the device.

Security and Data Handling

Nimrag is designed around local, on-device processing and storage, and it contains no application network-upload functionality, which means your recordings and location data are not sent anywhere by the app. Your files are protected by your device's own security (such as your screen lock and Android's app storage model).

No app or system can promise absolute security, and Nimrag does not claim to be completely secure. Keeping your device updated and protected with a screen lock helps protect the recordings stored on it.

Data Retention and Deletion

• Recordings, GPX tracks, and snapshots remain on your device until you delete them, or — for Loop recordings — until Nimrag's configured loop-retention behaviour removes older eligible loop clips.
• Uninstalling Nimrag may not remove recordings, GPX tracks, or snapshots that were already saved to your device's shared storage; those remain until you delete them.
• You can delete these shared files at any time using Nimrag or your device's file and gallery tools.
• App-private settings may be removed when you uninstall the app, subject to Android's own backup and restore behaviour.

Children's Privacy

Nimrag Dashcam is a general-purpose recording tool. It is not directed at children.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy if Nimrag's functionality or privacy practices change. When we do, we will revise the page and update the effective date shown at the top. Please check this page for the current version.
